What Exactly Is a Chase Car?

A chase is a limited-edition version of a standard diecast release. These rare models are usually:

  • Packed 1 or 2 per case

  • Sometimes don’t appear in every case

  • Feature unique elements like:

    • Raw finishes

    • Chrome or alternate paint colors

    • Special wheels or rims

    • Rubber tires

    • Variant packaging

Their rarity, plus their visual appeal, is what makes them chase-worthy.

Brand-by-Brand: How Chases Are Done Differently

Hot Wheels: Treasure Hunts & Super Treasure Hunts

  • Treasure Hunts: Identified by the flame logo, these offer small tweaks and are packed about 1 per case.

  • Super Treasure Hunts (STH): Much rarer—featuring Spectraflame paint, rubber tires, and premium details. These are a collector’s holy grail.

Auto World: Red Machines

  • These chases are distinguished by bright red paint or details—sometimes even red chassis and interiors.

  • Very low production numbers—as few as 3% of a run—make them exceptionally rare.

GreenLight: Green Machines

  • Green wheels, green bumpers, green bases—Green Machines are unmistakable once you spot them.

  • Appears roughly 1 in 24 or more, depending on the series.

Kaido House: Raw and Revered

  • Known for raw, unpainted metal chases, Kaido House celebrates the casting itself.

  • These minimalist chases are super popular for how they showcase every detail in the car’s design.

M2 Machines: Chrome and Bold Variants

  • M2 chases go flashy with gold chrome, bright accents, or engine color variations.

  • “Super Chases” go all out—full-body chrome, unique packaging, or major upgrades.

Inno64: Chrome Explosion

  • While not every release includes a chase, when Inno64 does it—they go bold.

  • Expect chrome red, chrome gold, or mirror silver variants that scream for attention. Some Ferrari F40 chases, for example, are borderline showstoppers.

Mini GT: Raw Realism (With Some Limits)

  • Mini GT often releases raw metal chases and sometimes rim color variants.

  • Not every release includes a chase due to licensing restrictions—some car manufacturers require the model to strictly follow original paint and design specs.

  • But when Mini GT can make a chase, they do it right—always subtle, always slick.

Pop Race: Enigma Surprises

  • Pop Race introduced chases through the Enigma line, featuring special editions tucked into random shipments.

  • Often include alternate wheels, liveries, or packaging to keep collectors on their toes.

How Rare Are Chases?

It depends on the brand, but in general:

  • Most are 1–2 per case.

  • Some cases have no chase at all.

  • Others may include ultra-chases or super-rare limited variants that are under 3% of total production.
